Dawning

The nightwind sang an endless soft refrain;
A raven-haired princeling held me tight,
His sleeping features clear and moonlit white.
I still could feel the warmth where he had lain.

A raven-haired princeling held me tight—
He left me as the dark began to wane.
I still could feel the warmth where he had lain,
Flooding away the shadows of the night.

He left me as the dark began to wane;
A lovers' dawn, for then I saw the light
Flooding away the shadows of the night,
The redness of the sunrise like a stain.

A lovers' dawn, for then I saw the light:
That all my questing had not been in vain.
The redness of the sunrise, like a stain,
Spread through my body, burning fire-bright.
